Govt honours various personalities with awards

Kathmandu - The government has awarded various personalities with 'Nepal Sangeet Tatha Natya Rastriya Puraskar-2076 BS' here today. At a function, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation feted senior theatre artists namely Ramhari Gurung, Hasta Bahadur Thapa, Prachanda Malla, Kumar Basnet, Nir Shah and Narayandevi Pradhan at Singha Durbar, Kathmandu.

The award carries a purse of Rs 100,000 and a letter of appreciation each. Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yogesh Bhattarai awarded the personalities in recognition of their contribution to Nepal's theatre, art and music sector.

He also expressed his confidence that the award would further encourage the feted personalities for propagation of Nepal's drama and music sector.

Furthermore, he acknowledged the role of various literati in cultural transformation and urged them to actively contribute to these sectors. The Minister reaffirmed that his Ministry was committed towards preservation and promotion of art and cultures in the country. The programme was organized by the Nepal Academy of Music and Drama.
