Twenty-nine people go missing in landslide at Marang and Bima

Kathmandu - - Santosh Gautam Twenty nine people have gone missing in the incidents of landslide that occurred in several locations at Marang of Dhawalagiri rural municipality and Bima of Malika rural municipality in Myagdi district. The landslides took place on Friday morning following incessant rainfall. Among the 29 people who have gone missing in the landslide incidents, 21 are from Marang and eight from Bima.

Dhawalagiri rural municipality, Ward no 6 chair Rajaram Subedi said seven people are missing at Rikha, 10 at Namruk and one person each at Thulogaon and Kumri of Marang. According to him, four members of Bhim Prasad Jugjali's family and three persons of Dhan Bahadur Jugjali's family at Rikha have gone missing in the disaster.

Similarly, three people have gone missing after flood in the Dharkhola stream of Kalleni at Dhawalagiri rural municipality-6 swept away three houses. Those gone missing are Tajima KC, her son Prakash and Sabin Pun. The houses of Paradevi Pun and Bir Bahadur Pun have also been washed away by the flood. Paradevi has been rescued in injured condition. Likewise, Bishnu Sharma and Icchya Sharma have gone missing when they were buried by mudslide at Duley in Bima of Malika rural municipality-7.

Rural municipality, ward no. 7 chair Resham Jugjali said Elisha Sharma of Nauru has also gone missing in the landslide. A school building has also been damaged by the landslide at Maney. Similarly, five people have gone missing when the houses of Purna Nepali and Bir Bahadur Nepali at Tallo Gaon of Bima were buried by landslide. A truss bridge over the Shivaratri rivulet has been swept away by flood at Bharwang, a local Thaman Jugjali said.

Four cowsheds belonging to Khim Bahadur Pun, Kalima Budha among others have been buried by landslide while six houses and a suspension bridge are at risk of collapse at Devisthan of Malika rural municipality-5. The library building of Takam Secondary School at Ratnegaira at Takam, Dhawalagiri rural municipality-7 has been swept away by flood, a local Ganesh Subedi said. The old block of Takam Health Post has also collapsed The runoff after incessant rain has destroyed the recently planted rice saplings at Kimchaur.

The house of Resham Phagami has collapsed at Hila Pokhari. However, no human casualties have been reported. Six houses are at risk from landslide at Deubuja of Takam, said Gopal Acharya, a local. Meanwhile, the Beni-Jomsom roadway has been completely disrupted after the swollen Raghuganga river swept away the Bailey bridge at Rahughat. The road connects Mustang via Raghuganga and Annapurna rural municipalities of Myagdi district.

Traffic along this roadway has been halted due to this, Bhawa Bahadur Bhandari, Chair of Raghuganga rural municipality, said. The Bailey bridge is located at the border between Rahughat of Raghuganga rural municipality and Galeshwor of Beni municipality-9 in Myagdi district. Thirty families have been displaced at Rahughat due to the high risk of erosion by the swollen river. These families have been shifted to safer area.
