Farmers encouraged for commercial fruit farming

Kathmandu - In its attempt to promote fruits production, Janaki Rural Municipality in Kailali district has distributed fruit plants to the villagers. The rural municipality has provided locals with a total of 1,100 fruit plants to encourage the farmers for commercial fruits production and make the local level self-reliant on fruits production.

Agriculture technician at the rural municipality, Top Bahadur Bista, said that each farmer was given two mango plants and a litchi plant to lure them towards fruit farming. Along with the food crops, the rural municipality is unveiling different schemes to attract the locals towards fruit productions. The mango and litchi plants were distributed in grant and the scheme will continue in next fiscal year too, Bista added.

Likewise, the Rani Jamara Kulariya Irrigation Project in Kailai district has also prioritized fruit farming in its catchment areas. The project has launched programmes for farming banana, mango, lemon and litchi in a total of 41 hectares of land. The project is giving 50 to 75 percent subsidy in saplings and micronutrients as per the farmers' demand to increase the quality production.
