Federal parliament team begins study on deforestation

Kathmandu - The Agriculture, Cooperative and Natural Resources Committee of the Federal Parliament has begun study on the deforestation caused in the name of scientific forest management. The team of committee members Shanta Chaudhari, Satya Narayan Sharma Khanal and Raj Bahadur Budhthapa arrived in the district and began study.

The team held discussion with the stakeholders on the activities carried out by the community forest users' group under the scientific forest management. The committee arrived in Kanchanpur after the forest management by the users' group drew widespread criticisms, the federal committee grew concerned and arrived here for the study.

A report will be prepared after completing the study and monitoring of the scientific forest management programme run by the community forest users' groups across the southern plains, she added. The report then would be submitted to the government. Earlier, criticism was drawn hugely after the trees were cut down randomly and financial irregularities reported in course of the forest management. According to Chaudhari, it was also complained that even the forest technicians were demanding allowance and tips from the consumers.
