Orientation on cancer screening

Kathmandu - An orientation on screening of obstetrics, fistula, cervical and breast cancer has been conducted at Tilathi Koiladi Rural Municipality in the district on Monday. The orientation organized by the health section of the rural municipality was attended by women, women health volunteers and health workers.

Dr Prakash Singh of Primary Health Centre of Topa, and public health officers Bhupendra Jh, Kalpana Mandal and Chandra Nepali facilitated the orientation. Dr Singh said regular screening was imperative for curing cancer which shows its symptoms after spreading to different parts of body. "Although cancer is a lethal disease, it can be cured if diagnosed on time," he stressed.

In Nepal, 90 percent cancer patients visit hospital after the disease spreads to different parts of the body. According to the World Health Organization, women generally suffer breast, colorectal, lungs and stomach cancer. One in eight persons in the world dies of cancer.
