VAW cases on rise in Banke

Kathmandu - Incidents of violence against women have increased in Banke district during the lockdown. Data provided by District Police Office, Banke shows the incidents of VAW increased in the district in recent three months as compared to the corresponding period in previous fiscal year.

A total of 52 complaints of domestic violence have been filed in the district from March 24 to June 15. Forty four women were victims in these.

Similarly, eight men had filed complaints of domestic violence against them. Though the DPO has received such number of direct complaints, they have not been forwarded as FIR process. Only one woman has filed a case against domestic violence while seven rape cases had occurred in the district during lockdown.

In-charge of Women, Children and Senior Citizen Service Centre, Banke, Shyam Kumari Paija Magar shared that many women visit the Centre with direct complaints but do not want to go for FIR as they wanted to settle the issue on mutual understanding and reconciliation.

A total of seven people including two boys, two girls and three women have gone missing during this period while three boys, a girl and a woman were found in an unclaimed condition. Likewise, three persons including a child and two women committed suicide while three cases of murder were filed during the period
