Westerly wind brings precipitation, weather to improve from Saturday

Kathmandu–Cloudy condition prevails across the country today with rainfall and snowfall in the high hilly and mountainous areas, due to the influence of the westerly low pressure system.

Light to moderate rainfall has occurred in most of the places of the country while light to moderate snowfall has taken place in the high hilly and mountainous areas, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Meteorological Forecasting Division said.

Meteorologist Sajina Shakya said precipitation is taking place in most places of the country today due to the influence of the westerly low pressure system. She said the weather will likely improve from Saturday. The Division has issued a special weather bulletin for the next 24 hours, warning of the possibility of heavy snowfall in many places of the high hilly and mountainous region of the central and western part of the country. It has urged for precaution in view of this.

The weather is generally to completely cloudy in the western, central and eastern hilly region, the Division stated.

Continuous rainfall is taking place in most places of the country including the Kathmandu Valley since Thursday evening. Rainfall is still occurring in the Valley. Normal life has been affected due to the rain.

Cold has increased in Kathmandu due to rain. According to the Division, Kathmandu received 21 millimetres rain today. Similarly, Bhairahawa received 39 millimetres, Dang 27 millimetres, Pokhara 23 millimetres, Birendranagar 24 millimetres, Nepalgunj 10 millimetres, Dadeldhura eight millimeters, and Dhangadhi and Dipayal each seven millimeters rain. The minimum temperature in Kathmandu is 8.8 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature is 14.9 degrees Celsius.

Weather forecast for next three days Meanwhile, the Division, in its weather bulletin for the next three days, stated that it will be generally to fully cloudy throughout the country today with chances of light to moderate rainfall in most of the places. Likewise, there are chances of light to moderate snowfall in most of the places of high hilly and mountainous region while heavy snowfall is predicted in a few places of the high hilly and mountainous areas of the western and central region.

The weather will be partly to generally cloudy across the country at night as well. Light rain will occur in some places while light snowfall is predicted in high hilly and mountainous area. On Saturday as well the weather will be partly to generally cloudy throughout the country. Light rain will occur in few places of the hilly region while there is likelihood of light snowfall in some places in the high hilly and mountainous areas in the western region. The same weather phenomenon will prevail during the night as well.

On Sunday the weather will be partly cloudy in the hilly region with the possibility of light rainfall in few places of the hilly region, the Division said.
