Recommendation committee to unveil TRC, CIEDP office-bearers' names on Monday

Kathmandu–The meeting of the committee formed to recommend the names of the officer-bearers for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons (CIEDP) has decided to make public the recommended names on Monday.

According to committee's member Sharmila Karki, the meeting will make public the names of persons recommended to be the office-bearers of the TRC and CIEDP on Monday.

They will be given a period of five days in case anyone files complaint against them, which, she said, would help make final recommendation.

Karki shared that the committee has received applicants even from those who already served in these committee while some are new. Similarly, the committee had also received the candidates' names recommended by various related organizations.

The incumbent government had formed the recommendation committee in the coordination of former Chief Justice Om Prakash Mishra last April to recommend the candidates for the transitional justice mechanism.

Committee's other works besides calling for complaints on the prospective candidates for the office-bearers was stalled since the formation of the committee.

Meanwhile, the forum of the conflict-victims, Sajha Chautari, has released a press statement and decried the delay on the part of the government in delivering transitional justice through these Commissions.

Moreover, the forum has expressed concern that political parties' agreement has challenged the transparency and fairness in selection process to fill the posts at the Commissions.
