KATHMANDU, December 9: India-based Kolkata High Court has passed a verdict of providing INR 500,000 to Durga Prasad Timsina (Deepak Joshi) who was released earlier in March after spending his 40 crucial years in Indian prison without any trials.
A joint bench of Justice duo Prakash Shreevastav and Rajsher Bhardwaj ordered the West Bengal government to deposit the compensation amount in the bank account of Timsina through the Consulate General of Nepal in Kolkata on December 7.
Timsina originally from Mai Municipality in Ilam District was arrested in Darjeeling, India , back in 1980, on the charge of murdering a women and had to spent as many as 40 years in Indian prison without any trials.
