Justice Khadka to bench writ petitions against Election Commission, Speaker Sapkota

KATHMANDU, September 3: The Supreme Court is hearing the writ petition lodged against the Election Commission and Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota, on Friday.

The hearing will be conducted by a single bench of Justice Mira Khadka.

Earlier on Wednesday, the main opposition party, CPN-UML filed writ petitions against the poll body, Speaker Sapkota and Speaker of Lumbini Province, Purna Bahadur Gharti.

The UML has accused the EC of illegally verifying the signatures of its lawmakers and central committee members who wanted to split the party. Likewise, the party has filed writ petitions against Speaker Sapkota and Speaker of Lumbini Province stating that they refused to take action against those lawmakers who were earlier sacked by the party.

The writ petition has also demanded to scrap the newly registered political party, CPN (Unified Socialist), maintaining that party Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal did not have support of 55 central committee members while registering the party.
