Medicine and medical equipments purchase process should be simplified: DPM Yadav

Kathmandu–Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health and Population, Upendra Yadav, has said that problem has surfaced in medicine and health equipments purchasing process due to complex purchase process.

In today's meeting of the Education and Health Committee under the House of Representatives, Deputy Prime Minister Yadav said that it was necessary to make arrangement of purchasing the medicines and medical appliances through a separate process rather than calling for tender as supply of medicine is a sensitive issue.

He said, "The trend of purchasing medicines and medical equipments through minimum bid amount has deprived the people from getting quality health service."

Saying the regulation is going to be formulated for the effective implementation of reproductive health and public health act, the Health Minister said that the employee adjustment process has affected the health sector.

He stressed the need of increasing budget to the health sector and added that a new policy is going to be formulated for the reform of health sector. On the occasion, Coordinator of Health and Population Sub-Committee, Khagaraj Adhikari, handed over the report to Committee President Jaypuri Gharti.

Umakanta Chaudhary, Gagan Kumar Thapa, Bhairab Bahadur Singh, Man Kumari GC, Namita Kumari Chaudhary and Hit Bahadur Tamang were the members of the Sub-Committee formed on November 18, 2018.

What are in the report? The report submitted by the Sub-Committee has suggested the government to bring hospitals at all local levels into operation immediately, further reforms in the medical store of central hospitals, emergency ward, coordination among centre, states and local levels to provide effective health services, making ambulances and mortuary van services systematic, monitoring the provision of sending the doctors studying on government scholarship quota to the remote areas and paying attention to protect property of all government hospitals. ---
