Speaker Mahara sees need of upgrading of BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital

Chitwan –Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara has insisted on the need of developing the Chitwan-based BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital into a health facility of international standard. 


In his address to a programme organised on the occasion of the 19th anniversary the hospital and the 14th National Cancer Awareness Day here today, the Speaker was of the view of upgrading the hospital to a model health facility.He took the time to advise the hospital to open it for research works by upgrading itself to a teaching hospital. He pledged to take initiations toward that end, highlighting the need of cooperation among the government, private sector and community for further development of the hospital. 


Also speaking on the occasion, Nepali Congress general secretary Dr Shashanka Koirala spoke the need of enhancing the hospital and transforming it into a model one. The hospital where foreigners also arrived, seeking treatment should be developed into a research center. 


Hospital outgoing chair Dr Prakash Raj Neupane, Cancer Service Society's outgoing chair Shyam Prasad Lamichhane and some of the hospital staff were honoured on the occasion in recognition of their significant contributions to the hospital. 


The 450-bed hospital had started providing its services formally from September 26, 2000. ---
