Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall Expected Across Nepal

Kathmandu. Today and tomorrow, there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in various parts of the country, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has stated. Currently, moderate to heavy rainfall is occurring in some places in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, and in a few places in Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces. Further rainfall is expected in these areas, and caution has been urged.

The department has stated that monsoon activity will increase today and tomorrow, with a possibility of heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning in a few places in the hilly and terai regions of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces. There is also a possibility of very heavy rainfall in one or two places in these provinces.

The heavy to very heavy rainfall is due to the gradual increase in the flow of moist air into Nepal caused by a low-pressure system developing in the Bay of Bengal.

Due to heavy to very heavy rainfall, there is a risk of landslides, floods, and erosion, and a risk of inundation in urban and terai areas. The department has requested vigilance as water levels in large and small rivers, streams, and rivulets may rise.
