Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve Attracts Over 9,000 Tourists in FY 2082/83

Sunsari. A total of nine thousand 242 tourists visited Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve, known as the capital of Arna and the paradise of birds, by the month of Jestha in the fiscal year 2082/83.

According to the reserve administration, in recent times, domestic tourists have shown the most attraction compared to foreigners in this area.

Out of the total tourists visiting the reserve, nine thousand 70 are Nepali, of which four thousand 535 are women and four thousand 535 are men. Similarly, from South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries, 3 women and 22 men, totaling 25 tourists, have visited Koshi Tappu. From foreign countries other than SAARC, 44 women and 103 men, totaling 147 tourists, have come to observe the reserve.

In the 11 months of this fiscal year, the highest number of tourists came in the month of Mangsir, while the lowest number of tourists came in the month of Asoj. In Mangsir, 1,893 tourists visited the reserve, while in Asoj, only 325 tourists entered here. According to the reserve administration, 496 tourists visited in Shrawan, 547 in Bhadra, 591 in Kartik, 642 in Poush, 1,499 in Magh, 697 in Falgun, 691 in Chaitra, 791 in Baishakh, and 1,070 in Jestha.

Especially, tourists coming here can directly see the critically endangered Arna (wild buffalo) along with 20 types of small and large animals such as deer, rhesus, nilgai, wild boar, monkeys, and pythons. Tourists can also easily see dolphins in the Saptakoshi River flowing next to the reserve, informed Reserve Planning Officer Poudel.

This reserve, which has 498 species of birds, including globally rare birds, has 20 species of ducks and 114 species of water birds as main attractions. In addition, as tourists visiting the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve area in recent times can also observe rhinos along with native and migratory wildlife, it is expected that the number of tourists will increase further in the coming days.
