15-Year-Old Vaibhav Suryavanshi Becomes Youngest Indian Cricketer Selected for National Squad

Kathmandu. Indian cricket team's 15-year-old young batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi has become the youngest player ever to be selected. At 15 years and 71 days old, Vaibhav has been included in the Indian team for the T20 series against Ireland and England to be held in June-July and the Asian Games in September. Vaibhav, who reached the final of the Under-19 World Cup held in February this year, played a spectacular innings of 175 runs off 80 balls against England.

Vaibhav has broken the records of Shafali Verma and Sachin Tendulkar on his way to being selected for the national team for the first time. Earlier, Shafali held this record at the age of 15 years and 220 days when selected, while Sachin Tendulkar was selected at the age of 16 years and 194 days among men and women cricketers. If Vaibhav gets a chance to play even a single match in the upcoming tour or the Asian Games, he will become the youngest player to debut for India, surpassing both Shafali and Sachin. However, in the context of world cricket, the records for the youngest international debut are held by Jersey's Nia Charlotte Gregg (11 years 40 days) and Romania's Marian Gherasim (14 years 16 days).

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has also made a big change in the T20 team leadership. Captain Suryakumar Yadav, who won the World Cup, has been removed from captaincy and also from the team, while Shreyas Iyer has been appointed as the new captain of the T20 team. Tilak Varma has been given the responsibility of vice-captain of the team. The T20 team announced for the Ireland and England tour includes Shreyas, Tilak, and Vaibhav, along with Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Shivam Dube, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Varun Chakravarthy, Mohammed Siraj, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, and Prince Yadav. The team for the Asian Games will also be largely the same, with the inclusion of fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah.

On the other hand, for the upcoming One Day series against Afghanistan, Yashasvi Jaiswal has been called into the team in place of Virat Kohli. According to chief selector Ajit Agarkar, Jaiswal was given a chance after Kohli was ruled out of the team due to a hamstring injury. Shubman Gill will captain the One Day team, which includes players like Shreyas Iyer, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, and Kuldeep Yadav.
