Detention hearing of Rabi Lamichhane to continue today
Kathmandu, January 15 — The detentionn hearing of Rabi Lamichhane, President of the Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP), will proceed again today.
The case had been postponed for the next day after Monday's hearing was not concluded.
Since Tuesday was a public holiday, the hearing on the detention issue will continue today.
On Monday, during the hearing before Judge Madhav Prasad Adhikari, two senior lawyers and seven government attorneys argued against Lamichhane.
Senior advocates Surendra Bhandari and Dinesh Tripathi argued on behalf of the defendant.
Likewise, nine lawyers, including government attorneys Khadindra Raj Katwal, Chandra Sanjel, Santosh Raj Katwal, Radhika Suwal, and Bina Khadka, presented their arguments. However, as the arguments were not completed, the case was postponed for further hearing.
Lamichhane appeared in court on Sunday after an indictment was filed for embezzling funds from the Swarnalaxmi Multi-Purpose Cooperative. However, on Tuesday, after a detention statement was taken, Judge Adhikari ordered Lamichhane to be sent into judicial custody.
Police investigations have concluded that Lamichhane took 57.8 million rupees illegally from the Swarnalaxmi Multi-Purpose Cooperative, which violates the law.
A claim of 57.8 million rupees has been filed against him.
