Dengue infections persist despite cold weather

Kathmandu, December 23 — Despite the cold weather, dengue infections have not been reduced to zero.

According to the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD), although the cold season has arrived, dengue infections are still being confirmed in fewer than 200 people per month.

Dr. Yaduchandra Ghimire, Chief of the EDCD, stated that even in the winter, around 200 cases of dengue infection are reported monthly from the Terai region. "Even though it's winter, infected mosquitoes are still spreading dengue," he said. "The number is low, with around 150 to 200 new cases reported each month."

Although it is winter, the risk of dengue remains, and Dr. Ghimire advises protection from mosquito bites.

In 2024, Nepal reported 34,385 cases of dengue, with 13 deaths. Dengue infections have spread to 76 out of 77 districts in the country.

Recently, some districts in the Terai region have reported new cases of dengue, Dr. Ghimire added.
