156 apply for positions in two TRC commissions

Kathmandu, November 20 — A total of 156 individuals have applied for positions in the transitional justice-related commissions, as per the TRC Search Committee. Om Prakash Mishra, the chairperson of the search committee, confirmed that the applications were submitted both online and in-person by yesterday.

For the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons, 89 people submitted their applications in person, while 20 did so online. Additionally, 20 applications were submitted with institutional approval, and 27 without the required consent, Mishra stated.

Among these applicants, 18 individuals applied for the position of chairperson for both commissions in person or online. Furthermore, 11 applicants did so without institutional consent, while two submitted their applications with approval.

Out of the 156 applicants, 125, including women, have applied for membership positions in both commissions. According to Mishra, the list of applicants will be made public soon. After receiving public comments, the recommendation committee will proceed with the selection process.

The government, aiming to conclude the long-delayed transitional justice process, recently amended laws and formed a recommendation committee to finalize the appointments. Once the recommendations are made, the government will proceed with the appointments, and the commissions will begin their work.
