Gaur Massacre case: 5-point agreement between victims and government

KATHMANDU, Aug 8: The Gaur Massacre Victims Struggle Committee and the government have come to an agreement.

Bijay Gautam, the personal secretary of the Home Minister, informed Ratopati that a five-point agreement was reached in the discussion held at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday.

After discussing with the family members of the victims of the Gaur incident that took place on the 21st March of 2007, the Ministry of Home Affairs agreed to investigate the incident and bring justice to the victims.

The government has agreed to publish the names of those who died in the incident and those who were declared martyrs by the Council of Ministers on December 24, 2008, in the Gazette.

Similarly, both sides have agreed to declare the victims as martyrs who were exempted from being declared martyrs.

The construction of the Martyr's Memorial Column in Rautahat will be carried out within this fiscal year in memory of those who passed away in the incident.

They have also agreed to request the Ministry of Health to treat the injured and to request the Prime Minister's Office and the Council of Ministers for financial assistance.

After reaching an agreement with the Ministry, the Victims Struggle Committee have withdrawn the strike demanding further investigation and action.
