Constitutional Council to meet at 4 pm on Tuesday to discuss new Chief Justice

KATHMANDU, July 30: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has called a meeting of the Constitutional Council. Deputy Speaker Indira Rana said that they got the information that the meeting would be held at 4 pm on Tuesday. 

It is said that the recommendation for the next Chief Justice will be discussed in the meeting. The tenure of the current Chief Justice Harikrishna Karki is ending on the 5th of August.

In Section 4 of the Judicial Council Act, 2073, there is a legal provision in the Supreme Court to recommend another judge one month before the time of vacancy if a judge retires due to age. It is mentioned there about the period of recommendation for appointment.

PM Dahal discussed calling a meeting of the Constitutional Council during the meeting with the leader of the main opposition party KP Sharma Oli on Sunday morning. Following that, the Prime Minister called a meeting of the Constitutional Council.
