Supreme Court rejects Balen's application to appoint proxy
KATHMANDU, July 11: The Supreme Court has rejected Balendra Shah's application to appoint a proxy in the Contempt of Court case filed against him.
The Supreme Court rejected the application stating that the person must appear in the court himself as it is not appropriate to hear the contempt of court cases through a proxy.
The High Court had issued an interim order not to ban the screening of Indian films in Kathmandu after the Film Association filed a writ in the High Court against Balen Shah's decision to ban the screening of the films in the Metropolitan City.
After the order, Balen expressed that he would not accept any orders or judgment from the court regarding the nation, nationality and independence.
Advocate Barsha Kumari Jha went to the Supreme Court with a writ of contempt of court claiming that Balen's expression was against the decision of the court. The court then issued a show-cause order against Balen and demanded a written reply from him. The Supreme Court scheduled the hearing after Balen submitted a written answer in the contempt of court case.
