SC demands written answer from Mayor Balen

KATHMANDU, June 27: The Supreme Court has demanded a written answer in the case against Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra (Balen) Shah. The single bench of Judge Til Prasad Shrestha ordered a written response from Mayor Balen in the case.

Advocate Barsha Kumari Jha filed a writ petition regarding 'contempt of court' in the Supreme Court after Mayor Shah expressed that he would not accept the order of the court. Even though the writ was scheduled for hearing on both Sunday and Monday, it was unable to be heard due to a lack of time.

Balen had announced that Adipurush and any other Indian movie would not be allowed to run in Nepal until the dialogue of 'Daughter of India' included in the Bollywood film 'Adipurush' was removed from the movie.

Immediately after that, in a writ filed in the Patan High Court by the Film Association, the umbrella organization of the Hall owners, the court issued a short-term interim order, saying that the decision to ban the screening of Indian movies should not be implemented immediately.
