Police leadership discusses with Home Minister on leak of subject under investigation

Decision to form inquiry committee

KATHMANDU, May 24: Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayankaji Shrestha discussed with IGP Basanta Kunwar, the information leak found during the investigation of the fake Bhutanese refugee case. Most of the Additional Inspector Generals (AIGs) also participated in the meeting.

During the discussion held at the Ministry of Home Affairs, there was a discussion about the leak of the 'chat' between the then Home Secretary Teknarayan Pandey and Keshab Prasad Dulal, found during the investigation. Keshab Dulal is one of the masterminds of the fraud business to send Nepalese as Bhutanese refugees to America.

In the leaked information, Dulal has asked Home Secretary Pandey to arrange a meeting with the then SSP Basanta Kunwar of the Valley Crime Investigation Office. In the message, it has been revealed that there was a discussion between Dulal and Pandey about giving financial 'support' to Kunwar. One of the AIGs participating in the meeting told Ratopati that it was decided to investigate the issue of the investigation.

It is said that the issues that came up during the investigation came out due to internal unhealthy competition within the police.
