Banks yet to reach at four local levels in Dolpa

Jajarkot–People of four local levels in Dolpa have been deprived of banking facilities at their locality. Dolpo Budhha rural municipality, Shey Phoksundo rural municipality, Chharka Tangsong rural municipality and Kaike rural municipality do not yet have any banking facility in the community.

They are compelled to visit the district headquarters Dunai for banking transactions when around two years have passed since the formation of local governments.

The State-owned Rastriya Banijya Bank (RBB) has been assigned to set up its branches at Dolpo Buddha rural municipality and Chharka Tangsong rural municipality while another State-owned Nepal Bank Limited is responsible for reaching the Kaike rural municipality and the Prabhu Bank has been ascribed to provide banking services to the people of Shey Phoksundo rural municipality.

Chiefs of these local governments say they had frequently urged the banks concerned for the expansion of services, but banks said they were unable to go the Upper Dolpa due to security reasons.

The banks have sought the arrangements of 24-hour security to launch their services. Dolpa, part of the Karnali state, is the largest district in terms of the landmass it occupies, and is made up of eight local levels.
