NARC Acting Executive Director Emphasizes Integrating Farmer Experience with Modern Knowledge for Agricultural Research and Technology Development

Kathmandu. Nepal Agricultural Research Council (NARC) Acting Executive Director Dr. Shreemat Shrestha has stated that agricultural research and technology development should be done by integrating farmers' experience and modern knowledge. 

Speaking at an orientation program for newly appointed senior scientists and scientific staff organized by the Nepal Agricultural Research Council, he said that new innovations in the agricultural sector should be developed by integrating farmers' experience and modern science. 

 He pointed out the need to change the approach to collaborating with local farmers, mentioning that farmers have years of practical experience. He stated that the technology, skills, and practices used by farmers are suitable for the local climate and soil. He emphasized the need to understand the scientific basis and essence of these traditional practices and increase productivity by utilizing the modern knowledge and technology available to researchers. 

He said at the program, 'We need to change our mindset a bit regarding collaboration with local farmers. We need to understand that farmers also have vast experience. They have years of experience, and the technology, technology, and techniques they have used are very time-tested. They are suitable for the local climate and soil. To increase productivity, we can create new innovations by embracing the knowledge, modern knowledge you have, and the experience they have, and by understanding the science and essence of it, let's focus on that.'

He urged the newly appointed senior scientists and scientific staff to mingle more with farmers and the soil. He stated that new innovations cannot be made without mingling with farmers and the soil. He also informed that work is underway to create a new act for NARC. 

 He said that they are working to make agricultural scientists disciplined, professional, and respectable, and the cooperation of all stakeholders is necessary for this. He also stated that the work of restructuring NARC has been moved forward. NARC has announced that it will provide a five-day orientation to the newly appointed senior scientists and scientific staff. 

It has also been informed that during the orientation, all research centers located at NARC Khumaltar will be visited. NARC has stated that after the orientation, they will be deployed to their respective offices from Shrawan 1.
