Rural municipality chair attacked; four accused held

Baitadi– Police held four persons for allegedly attacking Gorakh Bahadur Chand, Chairperson of Pancheswor rural municipality of Baitadi, last night. The arrested are Birendra Bhandari, 22, Baldev Bhandari, 55, and Hikmat Bhandari, 49, of Pancheswor-6. They were held from nearby the incident site last night, said Netra Bahadur Kunwar, Baitadi district police spokesperson.

Chair Chand said a group of five persons had attacked him while returning home after discussion on a road linking to the centre of the riral municipality from Rodidewal. The group had suddenly attacked Chair Chand at around 4.30 pm while he along with ward-4 Chair were returning home following the discussion on the road. Police said further investigation into the incident is underway. Discussion would be held with both the sides on the incident, said Netramani Giri, Deputy Superintendant of Police. ---
