Wildfires burning 25 thousand hectares per day in Russia's Fare East

VLADIVOSTOK - The area of wildfires in Russia's Far East increased by 25,000 hectares per day, 18,000 hectares of which is non-forested areas, the press service of local forestry department reported on Wednesday. 

According to the report, there have been 100 registered fires in all in the past day: 95 in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), three in the Sakhalin Oblast, and two in the Khabarovsk Territory. 

The most serious is in Yakutia, where more than 800,000 hectares of forest and non-forest areas had been hit by fires. Most of the area that covered by fires is in remote areas, where extinguishing is hard to carry out due to transport inaccessibility. A total of 590 people and 45 units of equipment are involved in extinguishing the fires in Yakutia.
