Second phase of local polls today
Kathmandu - The second phase of the local level elections is being held in Province nos 1, 5 and 7 today with 62,408 candidates in the fray.
Of the total number, 41 candidates have already been elected unopposed. There are 8,364 voting centres for the elections being held from 7 am to 5 pm.
The voters will be exercising their franchise to elect rural municipalities' chairperson, vice chairperson, ward chairperson, municipalities' mayor, deputy mayor and ward chairperson, ward member, woman ward member and Dalit woman ward member.
More than 6.4 million voters will take part in the elections to choose 15,038 local representatives. The government has set up 4,581 voting stations and 8,364 voting centres. Apart from the security forces, 66,900 employees have been mobilized for the elections.
The Election Commission (EC) has urged the voters to vote assuredly citing its full preparation and the necessary security arrangements. The first round of the local level elections was held in Province nos 3, 4 and 6 on May 14. The third phase of the local polls will be held in Province no 2 on September 18.
