AFC U-23 qualifier: Nepal to take on Oman in first match

Kathmandu– Nepal and Oman are contesting in the first game of the qualifier round of the AFC U-23 Football Championship to be held in Thailand in 2020.
As per the tie-sheet made public last night by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), Nepal which is in Group ‘A’ of the championship will play against Oman in the first match. The match is taking place on March 22 in Qatar.
Nepal will play against the organizer Qatar on March 24 in the second match. It will play the last match of the group round with Afghanistan on March 26.
The top teams of the groups will play in the AFC U-23 championship. Similarly, the four best teams of the second group will get opportunity to play in the championship.
Forty-four teams are playing the qualifier matches. AFC has divided the teams into 11 groups. Sixteen teams will take part in the final round of championship.
Nepal has not been able to show outstanding performance in the AFC U-23 Football Championship so far. It has been knocked out from the first round itself. This time also Nepal is placed in Group A, which is relatively considered a tough group.
