Women SAFF Championship's schedule unveiled

Kathmandu–A schedule of the fifth edition of Women SAFF Championship taking place in Nepal from upcoming March 12 to 22 has been unveiled. 


As per the schedule published today by the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), Nepal is in the group 'A'. Nepal will meet Bhutan in its first match on March 12; Pakistan in the second and Bangladesh in the last one. All the matches under this group will be held in Biratnagar-based Martyrs Stadium. India, Maldives and Sri Lanka are in the group 'B'.

The Nepali women soccer team has been already in the practice session in view of the regional sports event. 
Thirty-three players have been under training at the Satdobato-based ANFA Complex. 


Nepal which is considered the stronger in the women football in the South Asia is yet to break India’s reign to win the title. The southern neighbour so far records undefeated victory in all editions. 


Earlier, the match was scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka and the venue was shifted to Nepal as Sri Lanka expressed its inability to host the event citing political instability emerged of late there. The South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) postponed the match by a month and decided to organize it in Nepal. Nepal team Captain Niru Thapa said they dreamt of becoming the champion at home ground.
