Police Shoot Drug Traffickers in Siraha, Recover Heroin

Kathmandu. On July 7, police arrested 6 drug traffickers by shooting them in Lahan Municipality Ward No.-3, Hospital Chowk, Siraha. The two injured were 22-year-old Bidyananda Yadav from Bihar and 40-year-old Mohammad Nasir from Rupni Rural Municipality Ward No.-1, Saptari, who were hit by a bullet fired by the Narcotics Control Bureau. Nasir was shot once in the left leg. Bidyanand was shot in the right leg. SSP Subash Bohora of the Narcotics Control Bureau claimed that the police had to fire in self-defense after being attacked by the group. The police recovered 243 grams of brown heroin from the group that attacked the police. Police investigation shows that Nasir has a long criminal background. It was found that Nasir was involved in criminal activities by joining the underground Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha Krantikari (Goit group). SSP Bohora of the Bureau said that while in the Goit group, he was arrested with weapons and investigated by the police under the arms and explosives case. He said, 'At that time, he seems to have been released after serving 9 months in prison.' Nasir is also a convict in a murder case. In 2078 BS, he was sentenced to 25 years in prison by the court in the murder case of a person from Saptari. It has been confirmed by investigation that he murdered Ramasundar Mahato on October 8, 2078 BS, by calling him to cook food for a feast in Shambhunath Municipality, Saptari. The investigation confirmed that after murdering Ramasundar Mahato, the body was thrown into a pond in the Khando River. In that case, Nasir and 2 others were sentenced to 25 years in prison. The convicted included 49-year-old Inarwati Devi Mahato from Bishnupur Rural Municipality-5, Saptari, and 30-year-old Roshan Sah from Dakneshwori Municipality-7, along with Nasir. According to the police, Nasir was in an extramarital relationship with Inarwati Devi Mahato, the wife of the deceased Ramasundar Mahato. The police investigation concluded that Ramasundar was murdered in collusion with his wife due to the extramarital relationship. According to the verdict on May 31, 2080 BS, Judge Hemant Rawal sentenced all three defendants to 25 years imprisonment each. As per the verdict, Nasir was serving his sentence in Jhulka prison in Sunsari. He escaped from prison during the Jhenji movement on August 24, 2082 BS. He was taken into custody on May 22, 2079 BS. Nasir will remain in prison until May 22, 2104 BS for the murder case. If convicted in the drug case, he will face additional punishment. SSP Bohora said that Mohammad Nasir, who introduced himself as Mohammad Nazir Miyan, started smuggling brown heroin after escaping from prison. He said, 'Recently, he has been seen involved in the drug trade.' Nasir is currently being investigated by the Inaruwa Area Police Office, Lahan, Siraha.
