Police Chief Expresses Concern Over Changing Study Habits, Emphasizes Tech-Friendly Information Dissemination

Kathmandu. Police Chief Dan Bahadur Karki has expressed concern over the changing study habits of the general public in recent times, emphasizing the need for tech-friendly and effective information dissemination. 

He stated this on Friday while addressing a program organized on the occasion of the 14th anniversary of Metro Traffic FM.

Inspector General Karki noted that people's interest in reading long articles or news is declining, with a growing attraction towards short content. He mentioned that platforms like social media and TikTok have changed citizens' habits of receiving information, and informed that Nepal Police is also adapting itself accordingly.

Speaking about study habits and the police's new approach, Karki said, 'Nowadays, people prefer to watch and read short content rather than long ones. From TikTok to news, short formats are watched more. There is also a concern that this might lead to the loss of the habit of reading.'

According to him, the police are trying to deliver information to citizens quickly and easily by publishing short and effective video clips through social media.

In this regard, Inspector General Karki urged journalists and media outlets not to focus solely on news related to politics, diplomacy, and conflict, but also to prioritize the creative and positive aspects of society.

Clarifying the role of the media, he added, 'I also have a request to the media – not just news of politics, controversy, and conflict, but also prioritize inspirational news about creativity, hard work, production, agriculture, tourism, innovation, security, and individuals who have made excellent contributions to society.'

He emphasized that media outlets should feature success stories of ordinary citizens involved in agriculture, tourism, excellent security work, and various fields of modern creation. He expressed confidence that the promotion of such positive news would greatly contribute to steering society towards being civilized, aware, entrepreneurial, and creative.
