Bharatpur Metropolitan City Installs 418 CCTV Cameras Across All 29 Wards

Chitwan. Bharatpur Metropolitan City has installed CCTV cameras in all 29 wards in coordination with the District Police Office, Chitwan.

The Metropolitan City has installed a total of 418 CCTV cameras, informed Information Technology Officer Bikalpa Kafle. According to him, cameras have been installed more in the urban areas of the metropolis and as needed on the roads in rural areas.

Cameras ranging from eight to twenty have been installed in a ward as per the need. The Metropolitan City has spent Rs 55,820,659 including value-added tax from the budget of the current financial year to install the cameras.

The Metropolitan City stated that the cameras were installed through a re-tender after the first tender called by the metropolis failed the technical evaluation. Among the installed cameras, eight are for speed measurement and four are for automatic number plate recognition. Similarly, there are nine cameras that can be rotated 360 degrees and zoomed.

Speed measurement and number plate recognition cameras have been installed at the entry points to Bharatpur Metropolitan City. The cameras installed in the main urban areas with high human movement and crowds have been found to be effective.

Cameras have been installed in sensitive areas based on police study. Also, an agreement has been reached with Nepal Telecom for the use of Nepal Telecom's wires.

According to Bharatpur Metropolitan City's Acting Chief Chitra Sen Adhikari, an agreement has been made to pay Rs 4.7 million annually for the use of Nepal Telecom's GPON network in Bharatpur.

The monitor for the CCTV cameras is located at the District Police Office. The Metropolitan City believes that this will facilitate traffic management, help reduce road accidents, and play an effective role in crime control and peace and security. The Metropolitan City has stated that CCTV cameras have been installed targeting the entire urban area.
