MP Ninukumari Karna Raises Caste Discrimination Against Actress Kajal Karna in Parliament

Kathmandu. Nepali Congress MP Ninukumari Karna has raised the issue of caste discrimination and insulting behavior towards Madhesi actress Kajal Karna during film shooting in Parliament. In the House of Representatives meeting on Tuesday, MP Karna strongly condemned the incident and demanded an investigation and action against the culprits.

According to MP Karna, established actress Kajal Karna, who has acted in more than 350 Maithili, Bhojpuri, and Nepali music videos and films, was subjected to mistreatment based on color and region during the shooting of the Nepali film 'Chiranjibi Bhava'. Karna stated that during the shooting, she was insulted by being told, 'You are Madhesi, this role does not suit you.'

MP Karna said that actress Kajal was subjected to extreme mental and social oppression on the shooting set. 'The makeup team forcibly applied black color to the actress's face and mocked her, saying, you work in an ashram, you look after cows, your makeup should be like this,' MP Karna said.

Karna claimed that not only was she subjected to insulting behavior, but she was also removed from the shooting set without receiving the remuneration she was entitled to for her work.

MP Karna recalled actress Kajal crying profusely during a telephone conversation with her and questioned how long the Madhesi and backward communities would have to endure such discrimination and suffering.
