Students Protest Unjust Eviction and Demand Justice for Ganesh Nepali

Kathmandu. United student organizations have protested at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu against the unjust eviction of squatters by the government and demanding justice for Mugu's Ganesh Nepali, who self-immolated.

Nepali, who became dissatisfied after Kathmandu Metropolitan City locked the wheel of his motorcycle for parking in a no-parking zone, attempted self-immolation in Tripureshwor, and later died during treatment. The students have become agitated over this incident.

The protesting students have accused the state machinery of being autocratic and insensitive towards the poor, laborers, and squatter class. They stated that forcibly displacing squatters from their settlements without alternative arrangements is unjust. During the protest, student leaders expressed anger, stating that instead of protecting citizens' lives and property, the government is terrorizing them in the name of fines and taxes.

The protestors have demanded an impartial investigation into Ganesh Nepali's self-immolation incident, strict action against the culprits, and appropriate compensation for the victim's family. They have also urged the government to abolish the impractical fine system and manage squatters appropriately.
