Labor Office Inspects Universal College of Medical Sciences in Bhairahawa

Bhairahawa. The Labor and Employment Office, Butwal has conducted a special inspection and oversight at Universal College of Medical Sciences located in Siddharthanagar, Rupandehi. Based on a complaint received on the 'Hello Sarkar' portal of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers' Office, the office has conducted a detailed inspection of the implementation of services and facilities as per the Labor Act and Regulations at the college.

Workers had filed complaints stating that they were not receiving wages on time according to their labor contribution, not receiving service facilities within 15 days of employment termination, and not even receiving the minimum wage set by the government. Based on these complaints, the Butwal office conducted an on-site inspection of the college under the direction of the Department of Labor and Occupational Safety.

After the inspection, the Labor and Employment Office has issued 12-point directives to the college administration. These directives include providing all workers with the minimum wage and dearness allowance set by the government, enrolling all workers in the mandatory contribution-based social security fund, and processing the salaries and service facilities of resigned or terminated employees within 15 days, among others.

The Labor Office has warned that there is a legal provision to fine employers who employ workers against the Labor Act or do not provide stipulated facilities up to double the amount deducted from the worker and pay it to the worker. The office has also directed the college to conduct a labor audit and submit a report within the stipulated time.

This inspection was completed by a team including Senior Labor Officer Manojkumar Shaini and Section Officer Hum Pandey. The Labor Office clarified during the inspection that child labor was not being used.
