MP Ramesh Prasai Demands Home Minister's Response on Karnali Highway Accidents

Kathmandu. National Independent Party (Rastriya Swatantra Party) MP Ramesh Prasai has demanded a response from the Home Minister regarding the frequent vehicle accidents on the Karnali Highway and the subsequent rescue operations. Speaking in the House of Representatives meeting on Monday, MP Prasai expressed objection to the state and society merely treating the accidents on the Karnali Highway as news. He stated that the state cannot evade its responsibility to protect citizens' lives under any circumstances. Stating that no property or priority of the state can be greater than a citizen's life, MP Prasai questioned the effectiveness of the government's rescue mechanism in the recent accident. He demanded that the truth be brought out regarding whether the state mobilized its full capacity during the rescue and whether there was negligence in the rescue despite the pleas of citizens stuck on the cliff. Speaking in parliament, he said, 'Only when an incident happens in one's own home is its pain felt, and when it happens in another's home, it becomes mere news. Unfortunately, society has become so insensitive that accidents in Karnali have started becoming regular news for us.' He questioned what long-term plans the government has to make the Karnali Highway safe and prevent such heart-wrenching accidents from recurring in the future. Emphasizing the need to think beyond the ruling and opposition parties on this serious issue related to citizens' lives, MP Prasai also demanded an immediate ruling through the Speaker for the Home Minister to stand at the rostrum and respond.
