Biden Attacks Trump at Gala

Washington DC. Former US President Joe Biden launched a sharp political attack on current President Donald Trump at a gala event on Saturday.

Biden, using Trump's proposed plans as a basis, referred to his successor Trump as a 'loser' in Washington DC.

Speaking at a Democratic Party fundraising event in Hanover, Maryland, Biden harshly criticized Trump for 10 minutes. He specifically opposed Trump's plan to build a ballroom at the White House and the approach taken to renovate the city's Reflecting Pool. Biden's remarks are seen as his most direct and sharpest attack to date.

At the event, Biden sarcastically commented on Trump's plans, saying, 'This is not just his arrogant plan, to demolish the East Wing of the White House to make space for his own ballroom, to put his name on the Kennedy Center, to build a viewing tower (arch) in his own honor, and to appoint his own people to repair the Reflecting Pool.'

He added, 'Oh! What a loser.'

Biden was referring to Trump's attempt to add his name in front of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, which was later ordered removed by a court. Regarding the ballroom, Trump has defended his $400 million plan to demolish part of the East Wing and build a new structure. According to Trump, this is necessary for national security and to welcome state guests.

Similarly, US President Trump spent $14.7 million on changing the color and renovating the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. After this effort, problems such as algae growth and other issues appeared in the pool, leading to controversy. Trump and the US National Park Service have blamed physical damage for this issue.

Biden also objected to Trump's defense of his supporters who attacked the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. According to US media, Biden said, 'What angers me is that Trump wants to give taxpayers' money, that is, your money, to the January 6 rioters.' Biden's comment was aimed at an effort by the Trump administration to provide compensation to individuals claiming to have been unjustly targeted by the government, a process later dismissed by a judge.

Although Trump did not directly respond to Biden's comment, he called Biden a 'corrupt politician' last month on his social media platform Truth Social. On Monday, in another irrelevant post, Trump repeated the nickname used for his old rival, 'Sleepy Joe Biden.'

Biden's remarks came exactly two years after a disappointing debate with Trump in the lead-up to the 2024 presidential election, which had changed the direction of Biden's political journey. After the lackluster performance in that debate, key members of the Democratic Party pressured Biden to withdraw from the electoral race, leading Vice President Kamala Harris to take his place. However, Harris was ultimately defeated by Trump in that election.
