Woman Arrested in Lalitpur for Spreading False Rumors via Fake Murder Video

Kathmandu. A woman has been arrested in Lalitpur on charges of spreading false rumors by making a prank video of murder. The District Police Range, Lalitpur, took 25-year-old Mandira Gurung, who was living in a rented room near Changathali United Colony in Mahalaxmi Municipality-7, Lalitpur, into custody on Sunday. Gurung, originally from Phalabas Municipality-10, Parbat, was apprehended by the police for spreading false rumors that disturbed peace and security. According to the police, Mandira applied red vermilion powder to her hands and bed and told her friend Susmita Jirel, 'I killed my friend,' during a video call. Alarmed by the apparent murder scene in the video call, Susmita immediately informed the control room of the District Police Range, Lalitpur. Upon receiving information about the incident, a police team from the Lubhu Police Post reached the rented room and conducted a search. During the search, the police team found vermilion powder on Mandira's hands and bed. Upon questioning the woman, it was revealed that she had created a prank video to spread confusion and fear in society. The police have taken her into custody on the charge of spreading false rumors and creating unrest. The arrested Mandira Gurung has been remanded in custody for 5 days by the District Administration Office, Lalitpur, for further investigation, the police said.
