Tilagufa Municipality to Provide Rs 10,000 for Funeral Rites

Kalikot. Tilagufa Municipality has decided to provide Rs 10,000 in expenses for funeral rites to citizens residing within the municipality in case of their death. According to the policy, program, and budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2083/84, Rs 10,000 will be provided as funeral rite expenses to any citizen who dies within the municipality.

The municipality stated that it has brought a policy and program to provide funeral rite expenses to citizens within the municipality to make local government felt by the citizens. Deputy Mayor Mahendrabahadur Shahi said that an economic assistance fund will be arranged for the program. "We have brought this program to make local citizens feel that there is a local government," he said, "For that, the municipality will establish a separate economic assistance fund and provide funeral expenses from it." He stated that the local government is accountable to the citizens, hence bringing people-centric policies and budgets.

"We must be able to make citizens feel that the government is there for those who have no one," said Deputy Mayor Shahi. "For that, we have brought such programs targeted at citizens. This will provide relief to many citizens."

Mayor of the municipality, Shankarpasad Upadhyay, said that this program will provide immediate financial relief to poor and disadvantaged families in case of accidental death, thereby reducing the compulsion to borrow money for funeral rites to some extent. "This will build trust in citizens towards social security and local government," he said. "It will help families facing disaster, accidents, or economic hardship."

Ganeshbahadur Shahi, a local of Tilagufa-6, said that the funeral expense social security program for the death of citizens within the municipality can be considered a positive initiative. "Transparency in program implementation is necessary," he said. "If this is implemented transparently, citizens will feel the presence of a local government."
