Government Prepares to Establish Separate Department for Drug Control

Kathmandu. The government is preparing to establish a separate department for drug control and prevention. Home Secretary राजकुमार श्रेष्ठ gave this information on Friday while speaking at a program organized at the Ministry of Home Affairs on the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Home Secretary श्रेष्ठ clarified that the government has moved forward with the preparation to establish the department to make the work of the federal, provincial, and local levels aware of drug control and prevention in terms of policy. Along with this, he directed the concerned parties to fulfill the minimum standards when operating rehabilitation centers for the reform and treatment of drug addicts. He also alerted all organizations involved in the field of drug control and prevention to join hands with the government.

Speaking at the program, Home Secretary श्रेष्ठ said, 'We have initiated efforts to establish a department in the O&M survey of the current organizational structure. There is a thought of a structure for a department related to drug control and prevention, but it has not been passed yet. However, once it is established, it will be more effective in raising awareness for its prevention, control, and treatment work from the federal to the provincial and local levels in terms of policy. But it is not finalized, but I wanted to share that it is our thought.'

Home Secretary श्रेष्ठ has urged the provincial and local levels to actively engage in the campaign for drug control and prevention.
