Mixed Weather Across Nepal: Heatwave in Terai, Rain in Hills

Kathmandu. Today, Tuesday, mixed weather conditions are observed across the country. 

According to the forecast of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, some cities in the western Terai will experience extreme heat, while the hilly and eastern regions will have thunderstorms and lightning with rain. A significant difference in temperature and weather conditions is observed in various parts of the country.

Specifically, the western Terai cities are predicted to have scorching heat today. There is a possibility of a 'heatwave' in Nepalgunj and Dhangadhi this afternoon. The maximum temperature in Nepalgunj will be the highest in the country today, reaching 39 to 41 degrees Celsius, while the temperature in Dhangadhi will be between 38 to 40 degrees Celsius. 

Similarly, Birendranagar, Bhairahawa, and Ghorahi will have 'hot days' today. The temperature in Birendranagar and Bhairahawa is estimated to be between 37 to 39 degrees, and in Ghorahi, between 35 to 37 degrees Celsius. The probability of rain in these cities today is zero percent, and the sky will remain mostly clear during the night.

On the other hand, there is a possibility of rain in the central and eastern parts of the country as well as in the hilly areas. Pokhara, Kathmandu, Okhaldhunga, Dhankuta, Biratnagar, and Taplejung have a 40 percent chance of moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning this afternoon.

The maximum temperature in Kathmandu will be between 29 to 31 degrees Celsius today. Tonight, Pokhara and Taplejung will continue to experience moderate rain with thunderstorms, while Kathmandu, Okhaldhunga, Dhankuta, Biratnagar, Dharan, Janakpur, and Jiri will have light rain.

Furthermore, Dadeldhura, Dipayal, Jumla, Simara, Jomsom, Dharan, and Janakpur have a 20 to 30 percent chance of light rain with thunderstorms and lightning this afternoon. During the night, most of these western and Himalayan regions will have partial cloud cover, but there is no possibility of rain. 

Looking at the data for the entire country, Jumla will have the lowest temperature tonight. The Meteorological Forecasting Division estimates that the minimum temperature in Jumla will drop to 10 to 12 degrees Celsius.
