Government to Pass Federal Education Act Within Upcoming Fiscal Year

Kathmandu. The government has set an action plan to pass the Federal Education Act in Parliament within the upcoming fiscal year.

Education Secretary Chudamani Poudel said that the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has moved forward with an action plan to pass the act in Parliament within the upcoming fiscal year to solve the problems seen in school education.

Speaking at a meeting of the Development, Economic Affairs and Good Governance Committee under the National Assembly of the Federal Parliament on Tuesday, Secretary Poudel clarified that the distortions and inconsistencies seen in school education could not be ended because the act was not passed by Parliament. He argued that the problem of teacher staffing seen at the school level would also be automatically resolved once the act comes. He stated that a federal act is indispensable to systematize education, which has been divided among the governments of all three tiers.

Secretary Poudel said, 'Local levels have been given a kind of authority over education. The provinces have the same, and so does the federal government. The Education Act is what will systematize this. As the Ministry has already formulated an action plan to pass the Education Act within the coming fiscal year, it will definitely solve many distortions related to governance and quality in school education, as well as problems seen in teacher management.

Secretary Poudel said that both administrative and managerial problems have been seen in school education due to the government's inability to bring the act. He mentioned that all three tiers of government need to work together to improve the quality of school education.
