Journalist Detained for Allegedly Assaulting Ward Chairman

Dhangadhi. Police have taken journalist Aishwarya Kunwar under control on charges of public abuse and assault on Ward Chairman Rabindra Devkota of Bhimdatta Municipality-18, Kanchanpur. Video of Kunwar grabbing the ward chairman by the neck and attacking him has gone viral on social media after an altercation between the ward chairman and Kunwar at a program organized at a hotel in Mahendranagar on Sunday.

Kunwar was taken under control by a team from the Ward Police Office that reached the scene immediately after the incident. According to Tek Bahadur Rawat, Deputy Superintendent of Police and spokesperson for the District Police Office, Kanchanpur, Ward Chairman Devkota has filed a case against Kunwar under the title of indecent behavior. Kunwar is currently in the custody of the District Police Office and legal proceedings are being carried out against her, the police said.

Regarding the incident, journalist Kunwar claimed through Facebook, making a video public, that she retaliated because the ward chairman himself first abused her. Kunwar, who is also a member of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, Kanchanpur Branch, has garnered significant attention from many journalists following her involvement in this incident.

Most journalists have commented that journalist Kunwar did not consider her profession in this incident. Many have stated that this incident has shamed all journalists associated with the journalism profession.
