285 Youth Gain Employment Through Job Fairs in Jhapa's Arjundhara and Birtamod Municipalities

Jhapa. 285 people have gained employment from the job fairs organized by Arjundhara Municipality and Birtamod Municipality. 121 unemployed youth from Arjundhara Municipality and 164 from Birtamod Municipality have directly gained employment.

Arjundhara Municipality organized a three-day job fair with the objective of creating opportunities by coordinating local employment, job seekers, and employers. The job fair, organized by Arjundhara Chamber of Commerce and Industry and financially supported by Arjundhara Municipality, was held from Asar 3 to 5 in Shanischare Bazaar and has become an important medium for connecting unemployed youth with employment, according to the organizers.

According to the president of the Chamber, Indibar Khadka, through the fair, four 'waiters', 10 cooks, 20 housemen, 13 security guards, 25 shop employees, six caregivers, five teachers, 10 load-unload workers, 10 individuals with driving licenses, and the rest in other sectors have gained employment.

In the fair, 250 participated in beautician training, 300 in electrician training, 125 in computer-related training, and 150 in training and counseling related to waiter, sales, teacher, accounting, housekeeping, barista, Montessori, security, and helper. He also informed that 150 people participated in bakery-related training.

President Khadka informed that out of the goal of providing direct employment to about 180 people, 121 people have received employment in the initial phase. He stated that if the municipality arranges for a separate employee to look after employment-related work, up to one hundred more people can be provided employment from next year.

At the closing ceremony of the fair, the Mayor of Arjundhara Municipality, Baldevsingh Gomden Tamang, said that the job fair has been effective in solving the problem of lack of skilled manpower and unemployment. He emphasized that such programs should have started a few years ago and stated that the fair was organized from this year. He also informed that it will be continuously operated in the coming years.

The job fair was organized with the financial support of Arjundhara Municipality. Earlier, 164 unemployed youth had directly gained employment from the two-day 'Birtamod Job Fair' organized by Birtamod Municipality.

In the fair organized in collaboration with Birtamod Chamber of Commerce and Industry, one thousand and seventy-six people had applied for various jobs. Out of these, 164 people were affiliated with various employing organizations in the initial phase.

According to Sevak Bajgai of Pathway Nepal, the facilitator of the fair, 2,871 people observed the fair. The process of connecting the remaining applicants with suitable employing organizations based on their qualifications, experience, and skills is being advanced for future employment.

A total of 285 youth have directly gained employment so far from these job fairs conducted by two local levels in Jhapa. It is expected that such programs, conducted in collaboration between local government, industry-business, and the private sector, will contribute significantly to reducing unemployment and expanding local economic activities.
