Professional Network for Peace and Democracy Holds Solidarity Rally

Kathmandu. Professional Network for Peace and Democracy (PAPAD) has organized a solidarity rally from Maitighar to Sadak Bibhag for the protection of democracy, rule of law, civilian supremacy, press and freedom of expression and right to information.

The rally was attended by Nepal Medical Association, Federation of Nepali Journalists, Nepal Bar Association, Nepal Professors' Association, Nepal Teachers' Association and Nepal Engineers' Association.

The network has expressed concern over the recent political, constitutional and administrative developments in the country. They stated that although the implementation of the constitution, strengthening of democratic institutions, rule of law and protection of civil rights are fundamental principles of state operation, the current style of governance is attempting to weaken those values.

PAPAD has reminded that democracy is not just majority rule obtained through elections, but a system based on the supremacy of the constitution, balanced use of power, institutional accountability, freedom of expression, right to information, transparency, civil liberties and rule of law, and has urged all state organs to respect it.
