IPs call for identity and rights

Kathmandu - Various 43 organisations affiliated with indigenous nationalities have demanded that their identity and rights be protected, claiming that the new constitution does not ensure their fundamental rights. They have also accused the concerned authority of trying to deprive them of their constitutional rights. 

They blamed the government for not taking seriously identity and rights of indigenous nationalities living back ages as indigenous in various parts of the country and the high-level taskforce formed for amendment of the list of indigenous nationalities under the chairmanship of Dr Om Gurung for failing to put 43 indigenous community on the list of indigenous nationalities. They were speaking at a press conference organised here on Tuesday by Madhes Media House. 

Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Federation of Indigenous Kirat Association Prithivi Raj Mukarung Bantawa warned of a stringent protest if their demands are not met at the earliest.
