MP Gurupraasad Baral Demands Adequate Remuneration for Scientists

Kathmandu. CPN (UML) MP Gurupraasad Baral has demanded that the government immediately arrange for adequate remuneration for scientists. He made such a demand on Monday while speaking at the meeting of the Education, Health and Information Technology Committee under the Federal Parliament House of Representatives. MP Baral drew the government's attention to the sad state of manpower shortage even though there are vacancies in the Nepal Agricultural Research Council (NARC) due to the lack of adequate remuneration for scientists. He said that due to the inability to arrange adequate remuneration for senior scientists at NARC, a complex situation has arisen where work has to be done with acting staff. Discussing the pathetic condition of NARC scientists, he said, 'Today I have seen the condition of NARC scientists. There is a big gap of senior scientists there. There are vacancies, but no scientists. What this means is that scientists do not stay at the current salary scale of Nepal. And we have to manage the work through lower-level staff, acting through proxies or in other ways. This cannot deliver quality. Therefore, we need to pay attention to the appropriate projection of scientists.' MP Baral has also alerted the government to arrange for special scholarships to manage the necessary manpower for scientific research and investigation.
