Rastriya Swatantra Party MP Lima Adhikari Raises Concerns Over Alleged Fraud in Biratnagar Housing Project

Kathmandu. Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) MP Lima Adhikari has objected to the alleged fraud in the name of integrated prosperous settlement management located on the bank of Kesaliya River in Biratnagar Metropolitan City-12.  

Speaking in the zero hour of the House of Representatives meeting on Thursday, Adhikari stated that the settlement has become a debt trap rather than housing for the landless. She demanded an immediate investigation into the matter to remove the burden of debt from the poor and to practically guarantee the constitutional right to dignified housing.  

'The 'Integrated Prosperous Settlement' built on the bank of the Kesaliya River in Biratnagar-12 is prosperous only in name, but this settlement has become an extreme example of poverty. This settlement, built in a tripartite partnership between the Metropolitan City, Habitat Nepal, and Jeevan Bikas Laghubitta, has become a debt trap for the landless, not housing,' Adhikari said.  

She further added, 'Landless people who struggle to make ends meet daily have been burdened with debt with a monthly installment of Rs 7,000. Mr. Speaker, is this management or policy-level fraud?'

MP Adhikari said, 'There is no road, no drainage, no drinking water, and no electricity. This settlement of 100 households, built in a ravine on the riverbank without safety embankments, gets submerged even in normal rain. People have been crammed there for three years without infrastructure to gain political credit. Through the Speaker, I strongly demand from the government. Investigate this immediately, remove the burden of debt from the poor, and practically guarantee the constitutional right to dignified housing.'
