America had said that it had 'targeted' the tanker, stating that it was carrying oil from Iran and did not follow its instructions. There has been a strong reaction in India following the incident. New Delhi has summoned the Deputy Chief of the US Embassy and sought clarification on the incident.

3 Indian citizens working on the tanker had gone missing after the attack. Following the confirmation of their deaths during the search operation, the Indian government has expressed serious concern over the incident.

Indian officials have expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and said that further information about the incident and the circumstances of the attack has been sought from America.
